Gozitan Choir Schola Cantorum Jubilate, will be hosting the Bremen Boys Choir from Germany for a Gozo concert this month.

Over 1000 years ago, in around 1020, boys and young men founded the tradition of the boys’ choir and kept singing at Our Lady Church in Bremen. This tradition ran through the centuries and has lost none of its fascination, and has brought the commitment of today’s Knabenchor Unser Lieben Frauen.

SCJ explained that through numerous church services and large oratorio concerts, the Boys’ Choir from the far north of Germany, has sung its way into the hearts of people. The choir has already toured many countries throughout Europe.

Presently, more than 100 talented boys and young men are active in the choir. Their unique way of combining the up keeping of the tradition while singing high musical and educational standards and a genuine sense of community, has given this choir a long-term great reputation.

This October, the choir, with Conductor Ulrich Kaiser, will be visiting the Maltese Islands and will be presenting a rich repertoire including pieces by Franck, Schütz, Wolff, Bach, Staden, Biebl, Sisask, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Vandré, Seifert, Lützel and Eröd.

Schola Cantorum Jubilate has collaborated with the choir and organised their concert at the National Shrine of Ta’ Pinu. The concert will be held on Sunday, the 16th of October, starting at 6.30pm.

The Schola Cantorum’s organist Joseph Camilleri will be playing two organ pieces during their concert in Gozo.
