Ghajnsielem and Bethlehem sign a twinning agreementThe Ghajnsielem Local Council and the Municipality of Bethlehem have signed an agreement of cooperation which aims to establish cultural, educational and economical ties between the two towns.

The twinning agreement was signed this morning at the office of the Ghajnsielem Local Council, between Mayor Francis Cauchi and Dr. Victor Batarseh, the Mayor of Bethlehem.

The signing ceremony started with a video presentation of the third edition of the Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem event, which showed the connection that already exists between the two towns. During their speech, both Mayors pledged to maintain constant contacts between their towns in order to develop friendship and cooperation, exchange experience between the two communities and contribute to better knowledge and understanding of each other. In fact, Bethlehem and Ghajnsielem will be cooperating in four major areas:


Tourism. Through the support of the initiatives aiming at developing of reciprocal tourism, the exchange of information and cooperation between those institutions dealing with tourism and pilgrims.


Through mutual support of the initiatives aiming to establishing business contacts and cooperation between the economic entities of both cities.


Through initiating contacts between the religious, educational, cultural, social, sports institutions of both cities, establishing direct contacts between the citizens and young people in order to improve the knowledge of each other and build a friendly relationship between their communities.


Through mutual exchange of information and presentation of artistic groups’ achievements.

The Mayor of Bethlehem, was also accompanied by the Mayor of Jericho, Hassan Al Hussein, the Mayor of Hebron, Khaled Osaily and the Mayor of Ramallah, Janette Mikhael. Dr. Joe Mifsud, a Middle-East expert was also present for the signing ceremony.

The delegation visited the centre of Ghajnsielem, including the Parish Church, where they were greeted by Archpriest Can. Frankie Bajada. The group then moved on to Ta’ Passi fields where they were able to appreciate the nativity village which bears the name of their hometown of Bethlehem.
