The Victoria Scout Group has been named as this year’s winner of the Youth 4 Entrepreneurship Gozo Award.
The Gozo Business Chamber said that their idea titled ‘Sustainable Black Powder‘ gathered the most votes from the panel of experts.
The award was presented by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, the Victoria Scout Group also received €500.
The Victoria Scout Group explained that throughout the Maltese islands, the most common use of black powder could be found in fireworks.
However, due to supply chain issues, and due to rising prices, black powder has become more and more expensive.
Therefore, the proposal presented plans to construct a black powder manufacturing plant in Gozo. The plan is to use organic methods to produce all three ingredients needed from locally sourced materials.
The Gozo Business Chamber thanked all other participants who made this year’s competition possible. ”Thank you for submitting your business proposals. Going on stage in front of a panel of experts and an audience is not easy, we truly hope that this event spurs you on to achieve bigger things in the future.”
The Chamber also thanked Agenzija Zghazagh, the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Europe Direct Gozo, BOV, Malta SME Week and the Ministry for the Economy and Industry who collaborated with them for this year’s edition of the award.
