The Maltese-Canadian community of West Toronto “Junction” mourned the passing of long time resident and volunteer Saviour “Sam” Cassar (76 years old).

It was appropriate that on November, the 21st at Lynette’s Funeral Home, along with Sam’s photo and Gozo license plate, his camera was present. For decades Sam was behind that camera filming the various and many events which took place in the Maltese community.

The Maltese-Canadian Society of Toronto’s annual “Miss Malta Pageant” was one of his favourites, as well as the Maltese-Canadian Federation’s yearly l’Imnarja” picnic. Sam felt that it was important to chronicle the happenings in the community, events st St. Paul the Apostle church, Malta Band Club, Melita Soccer Club, Gozo Club, etc.

Sam was a proud Maltese, but an even prouder Gozitan from Fontana. During his nearly three months of hospitalisation his sons were present. His wife Rose was daily at his bedside at St. Michael’s Hospital. He often had visits from Rose’s daughters. Sam was never alone although he was in a semi-conscious state.

The funeral Mass at St. Paul the Apostle Church was conducted by Father Dominic Cachia, MSSP. A large number of mourners attended the service and later the burial at Assumption Cemetery in Mississauga.
