The government have announced the dates for the start of the next hunting season. On land it will between September the 1st and January the 31st, from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset, on Mondays to Saturdays and from two hours before sunrise to 1pm on Sundays and Public Holidays. The government said that these will be made part of local legislation.

To protect the migration period for birds of prey, no inland hunting will be allowed between 3pm and two hours before sunrise from the 15th to the 30th of September.

However, the Government, after consulting with the Police Corps, are ready to consider allowing hunting on land in one locality in Malta during these hours if a succesful proposal of self regulation is made to the Police by the hunters for this location. If this experiment succeeds, this process could be broadened to be included in the next season.

Hunting at sea will be permitted between October the 1st and January the 31st.

Quails and turtle doves can be hunted between September the 1st and October the 30th while golden plover and song thrush can be trapped between October the 20th and January the 10th 2010.
