The Wildlife Rescue Team, a branch of Nature Trust – FEE Malta, has advised that after days of a turtle being seen in Xlendi Bay, Gozo, and knowing it needed help, the turtle, now named Ralph, has finally been picked up.

The rescue took place 3 days ago and was a very delicate operation due to the rough seas, which wouldn’t have been possible “without the sterling collaboration between the Wildlife Rescue Team Gozo section and our Gozo nest volunteers (who kept a constant watch for her overnight from 8pm), as well as divers from Bubbles Dive Centre and divers from Ritual Dive, who went in separately and then finally managed to bring up the turtle,” the Wildlife Rescue Team said.

Ralph has a boat hit to the carapace, causing a V-shaped fracture to the carapace, as well as fishing line looped around his neck. The Team said that, “he is now at our vet for further assessment and to start his long recovery journey.”

The Team said that, “a massive thank you always goes to the public who call us when they notice an animal in distress, our vets, and our dedicated rescue and rehabilitation volunteers.”
