On Wednesday morning in the General Audience Pope Francis made an appeal for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
The Holy Father said, “I would like to ask you all for a special prayer for Pope Emeritus Benedict, who is supporting the Church in silence. Remember him – he is very ill – asking the Lord to console him and to sustain him in this witness of love for the Church, until the end.”
This morning’s General Audience took place in the Paul VI Hall, where the Holy Father Francis met with groups of pilgrims and faithful from Italy and all over the world.
In his address in Italian, the Pope focused on “Christmas with Saint Francis de Sales” (Bible reading: Lk 2:15-16).
After summarising his catechesis in various languages, the Holy Father addressed special greetings to the faithful present.
The General Audience concluded with the recitation of the Pater Noster and the apostolic blessing.
