Archbishop Charles Scicluna will represent the Church in Malta at the funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, which will take place in St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, the Archbishop will celebrate a De Requiem Mass for the Pope Emeritus at 6:30pm at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
Everyone is invited to attend this celebration. The priests are also invited to concelebrate in this Mass.
A mourning dirge will be played in all churches at noon on Thursday at the time of the Pope Emeritus’ burial; and during the day or on a close day a Mass will be celebrated for his soul.
“We ask the Lord to welcome Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI into his bosom and give him the fullness of peace, love and joy with him in heaven,” the Archbishop said.
