Malta International Airport have announced that during the month of July they registered a 6.3% decline in passenger movements. This results in an average decrease of 10.0% for the first seven months of 2009 when compared to the corresponding period last year.

The total passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in July 2009 was of 347,223 a decline of 23,541 when compared to July 2008. Likewise, both aircraft movements and cargo & mail figures registered a decline of 1.6%.

Passenger traffic for main markets, UK and Germany, decreased by 10.0%, and 9.0% respectively, whilst the Italian market registered an increase of 8.4% when compared to July 2008.

The busiest day in July 2009 was the 28th in terms of passengers with 14,047 movements whilst the highest number of aircraft movements totalled 108 on the 19th.
