A flow measuring device is being installed by the Energy and Water Agency near the natural spring known as l-Ghajn il-Kbira in Fontana.
The Fontana Local Council said that this is being undertaken as part of the national hydrological monitoring network for the Maltese Islands.
Dr Michael Schembri, an Official from the Energy and Water Agency, explained during a meeting held with the Fontana Council Mayor and Executive Secretary, how this network will upgrade the monitoring and gathering of information in order to draft policies so as to ensure that the use of this natural resource will remain sustainable for the coming years.
From its earliest days since its inception the Fontana Local Council said that it has “always been committed to conserve this historical and natural heritage site within the locality that also strengthens the national historical and natural heritage.”
