Clean-up of Wied tal-Grixti to help minimise loss of running waterMinister for the Environment Miriam Dalli has said that clean-up work is to be carried out in Wied tal-Grixti, which is part of the catchment area for the Lunzjata Valley in Gozo.

The Minister was answering a Parliamentary Question from Opposition MP Chris Said on what steps were being taken to ensure that the running water in the Lunzjata Valley and other nearby valleys in Gozo, is no longer lost to the sea, but saved and utilised.

In her reply, the Minister said that she was “informed that Project Green, with the collaboration of the Ministry for Gozo is proceeding with preparations for interventions in Wied tal-Grixti, which is part of the catchment area of the Lunzjata Valley.

These interventions will involve among others, general cleaning work, dredging, removal of alien and invasive species, planting of suitable trees and shrubs, and the restoration of rubble walls, the Minister said.

Minister Dalli concluded that the interventions are co-financed under the LIFE Integrated Project and with the aim of rehabilitating the valley, in a way that increases the maintenance of running water and protects biodiversity.
