The Munxar Square regeneration project has been inaugurated with an investment of around €1 million. The is the largest infrastructural investment ever made in Munxar, the Ministry for Gozo said today.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri carried out the inauguration, which was first announced in January 2020. Then it was then estimated that it would be through an investment of €800,000 by the Ministry for Gozo.

He remarked that “the regeneration of this square is another important link in a chain of projects so that public places become more accessible and begin to offer a wonderful environment to Gozo residents, as well as visitors.”

The Minister explained that the pedestrian areas were increased in the square with new paving giving it a completely new look. This project was also done against the background of several sustainable goals.

These included a reservoir which was built to protect the water, and will be used, together with a new irrigation system, to irrigate a number of native trees that were planted in the square.

A new efficient lighting system was also installed, illuminating the square and at the same time reducing the use of electricity.

Mayor of Munxar Damien Spiteri said that this project is the result of a lot of work, challenges and determination.

He continued by saying that it was thanks to the financial aid and support of the Ministry they were able to implement this project.

Minister Camilleri concluded by thanking all those who contributed so that the Munxar Square project could be possible and reiterated that “we are committed that together we will continue to make decisions and continue to carry out more projects for the good of the Gozitan and Maltese people.”
