Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations – is a new initiative launched by Il-Hagar¦Heart of Gozo Museum, in collaboration with the Ministry for Active Ageing, Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC), Heritage Malta, and Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth Form.
The aim of this initiative is to foster intergenerational connections by bringing together members of the elderly community and art students to explore the world of art and create their own interpretations of works displayed at the museum.
The first event in the programme consists of a public talk titled – How to Understand a Work of Art – and is taking place this Friday, the 5th of May, starting at 11:00, at Il-Hagar.
The talk will be delivered by Mario Cassar, Sir M. A. Refalo art lecturer, following which, attendees will be asked to choose a work of art displayed at the museum and describe it in writing.
The descriptions will be passed on to Sixth Form art students to create their own interpretation of the works based on these descriptions.
The main intergenerational event will take place on Thursday, the 18th of May, starting at 9am, when elderly and students will meet at Il-Hagar to discuss the similarities between the actual works on display and the art creations.
The event, which will be addressed by Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, will be concluded with a guided visit to sites administered by Heritage Malta. Transport will be provided by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC).

The parties involved in this Ministry for Active Ageing initiative said that they are “convinced that such events are crucial in promoting a deeper artistic understanding, as well as intergenerational solidarity.”
Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations provides an opportunity for the elderly community and students to connect and learn from each other in a fun and creative way.
