49 Local Councils, including 11 from the Gozo Region, received around €800,000 between them through the Annual Cultural Activities Scheme 2023/2024.
The main objective of this scheme is to help Local Councils to organise cultural activities in the heart of the localities around the Maltese islands.
This funding scheme is issued by the Local Government Division Department within the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government and is partially funded by the Malta Tourism Authority.
The Government said that the objectives behind these cultural activities include increasing the promotion of culture and the unique cultural heritage of the localities, and increasing the local tourism element, innovation, creativity, quality and sustainability of local cultural activities.
This while strengthening the socio-economic impact in the Maltese and Gozitan localities for the benefit of the residents, it said.
The Local Councils that submitted their application and qualified for the funds include 6 within the Northern Region, 5 from the Eastern Region, 8 from the Port Region, 12 from the Southern Region, 7 from the Western Region and 11 Local Councils within the Gozo Region.
