The Government has said that through a combined investment of €24.3 million, work on two major projects in the educational infrastructure in Gozo is well underway and when completed, both the students who attend the Victoria Educational Complex, Gozo, as well as the Nadur Primary School, will have an “excellent educational environment.”

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, together with the Minister for Education Clifton Grima, visited both projects where they were given an update on the work being done.

During the visit, Minister Camilleri stated, “the work is well underway in these two projects on Gozo, At the Nadur school we managed to carry out an extensive beautification, converting an old building into modern spaces suitable for today’s and tomorrow’s teaching and learning and is being completed without any student having to vacate the school premises.

He explained that the Victoria school project is one of the three massive projects currently underway in this area – the Aquatic and Sports Centre and the Gozo Museum. “All with the aim of creating the best environment for our children.”

Minister Grima said, “these two projects are part of a number currently underway by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools and through them we are investing to provide an educational environment that suits both our students and our educators.”

The building of a new Primary School in Victoria, Gozo, will replace the current one which is around 160 years old, through an investment of approximately €18 million and also involves the expansion and modernisation of the Middle School on the same complex.The Education Minister said that the Victoria Educational Complex “is the only one of its kind in our country.” Construction work was completed earlier this month and mechanical work and electrical installations are currently underway, including the installation of various electrical, water, air conditioning, plumbing services and information technology.

This complex includes a childcare centre, kindergarten, Primary School, Middle School, Senior School, as well as the Sixth Form and new sports facilities.

The excavation and construction work was carried out under the supervision of archaeologists from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage because archaeological remains were found on the site and to preserve them for the future an archaeological interpretation centre was built within the school building.

The Nadur Primary School project involves the extensive beautification of the existing primary school, with an investment of €6.3 million and for which there are funds under the NextGenerationEU Programmes through the Malta Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Education Minister went on to say that in addition to the extensive work to be carried out both the interior and exterior of the school, the project will include the redesign of open and recreational spaces, as well as the creation of new spaces for teaching extracurricular subjects, including a dance studio, music room, literacy room, theatre studio, and art classes.

The project will also address the accessibility of the building, and it will become energy efficient.

The beautification work in this school is being done in two phases, with the construction works in the first phase being finished and currently the mechanical and electrical works, and other work are being done.

Minister Grima said that the Nadur project will be ready for the 2023-2024 school year.
