A new dental clinic is opening in Ghajnsielem, with “top level equipment and advanced services,” in a joint educational project between the Ministry for Gozo and Education Ministry.

It was explained that the project, which is expected to be completed in the near future, will be of great benefit to the students in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the University of Malta, because they will not only gain direct experience related to their academic studies, but will also attend the clinic during the academic year to offer clinical services to the public.

During a visit to the clinic Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, explained that “in this first dental centre in Gozo, the service will focus in particular on Gozitan children who will have a check-up once a year. In this way it will serve not only as practice for University students, but also to take care of our children’s teeth.”

He added that this service will be provided free of charge and extended to persons with disabilities and the elderly, in a clinic that is “equipped with the latest technology, excellent equipment and that will offer an extensive range of services.”

Education Minister Minister Clifton Grima also visited the clinic and spoke about the importance of collaboration not only between Ministries, but also together with educational entities “which leads to benefits and opportunities for students, as well as for the whole society.”

“This collaboration that we are seeing today is leading to the students being trained in what they are studying, but it is also important that an excellent service will be provided by the students to the children, the elderly and the public in general. And this is what we want to see from the educational sector, work for the benefit of the students themselves but also of all communities,” said Minister Grima.

Also present for the visit were the Rector of the University of Malta Prof. Alfred J. Vella and the Dean of the Faculty Dental Surgery Prof. Nikolai J. Attard who spoke and explained the advanced services that will be provided in this the clinic.
