New postulator for the Cause of the Servant of God, Rev. Mikiel Attard

Monsignor Joseph Grech has been appointed by decree of the Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma, as Postulator for the Cause of Beatification and Canonisation of the Servant of God Don Mikiel Attard, diocesan priest.
On the 3rd of January 2023, he was tasked to carry out the office of General Postulator both for the diocesan phase and for that in Rome, the Diocese of Gozo said.
As a help, Monsignor Edward Xuereb was also appointed as Vice-Postulator of the same Cause.

Msgr. Joseph Grech was born in Nadur, Gozo on the 8th of September 1976. He studied at the Seminary of the Heart of Jesus, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology.
He was ordained a priest by Bishop Nikol G. Cauchi on June 20, 2001.
After Ordination Mgr Grech served in the Parish of Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio in Rome from September 2001 to September 2009.
During his time in Rome, he obtained his Doctorate in Canon Law and in Civil Law (Utroque Iure) from the Lateran University, as well as a Diploma in Canonical Administrative Practice, a Diploma in the Causes of Saints, and a Diploma in Sacred Archaeology.
In September 2009 he was called to enter the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, where the diplomats of the Holy See are formed. In fact he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Pope in July 2010.
Mgr Grech served in the Nunciature in Zambia, in the Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations in New York, in the Nunciature in Ukraine, and in the Mission of the Holy See for International Organisations in Vienna. From January 2022 he is serving in the Secretariat of State in the Vatican.
He has the title of Chaplain of His Holiness, as well as the diplomatic title of Councillor of the Nunciature.
Msgr. Edward Xuereb was born in Xewkija, Gozo on the 12th of April 1970. He received his formation in the Minor and Major Seminary of Gozo, and after being ordained a priest on the 24th of June 1995, he received his Doctorate in Canonical and Civil Law in 1999, as well as the Doctorate in Sacred Theology in 2006.
After Ordination, he served in the Parish of Santa Lucia in Rome and in the Parish of Xewkija where he grew up, until from 2004 to 2021 he was Chaplain of the Parish of Ghasri. From September 2021 he is Archpriest of Qala Parish.
From 1999 until today he held several offices in the Tribunal of the Diocese of Gozo, including as Judicial Vicar from 2007 to 2021. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Gozo Major Seminary.
