The Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna has appealed for the regularisation of “short let tourist apartments.”
It also insisted that Local Councils should form part of this strategy by adopting a “positive approach.”
Zminijietna claimed that “shorts let tourist accommodation disrupt the communities as they attract loud parties, overcrowding and problems of how to dispose of waste in a safe manner.”
It added that,”in fact certain countries are thinking of banning short let tourist accommodation altogether.”
The leftist organisation stressed “that the authorities should ensure that each property complies with safety standards and legal regulations. This should also apply to long lets, to discourage overcrowding in shared accommodation.”
Furthermore, it said, “local councils should be the authority in charge of these types of accommodation so as to ensure that owners comply with the law. If not, the particular accommodation should not be allowed to operate.”
