Local NGO Nadur Nadif, have been awarded Gozo’s Green Project of the Year, during a ceremony held in Marsalforn.
The young members of the team strive to help educate the public to “appreciate public cleanliness.”
Nadur Nadif collected 1,526 garbage bags between October 2020 to December 2022. There were 738 collected during 2022 alone.
They have organised and carried out multiple clean-ups across the island, as well as on Comino.
In August in a joint statement, the NGO highlighted the fact that although Comino is protected under numerous policies, there is no vision and parts of it have fallen victim to “negligence, shabbiness, and lack of enforcement. That is why, this year we decided to clean-up such areas.”
Nadur Nadif, commenting after the ceremony said that, “receiving this environmental recognition award is a tremendous honour, and we are deeply thankful for this acknowledgement of our commitment to environmental sustainability.”
They added that “this award reaffirms our dedication to protecting our planet and making a positive impact on the environment.”
“We believe that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility, and we share this award with our dedicated team and all those who have joined us in our efforts to create a more sustainable world,” they said.
They stressed that “together, we have worked tirelessly to implement eco-friendly practices and promote responsible environmental practices.”
“This recognition encourages us to continue our mission to protect and preserve our environment for future generations,” Nadur Nadif said.
“We are more determined than ever to push the boundaries of sustainability and lead by example. Once again, thank you for this prestigious award.”
Nadur Nadif concluded by saying that, “we are truly honoured and committed to making a lasting difference in the world…. especially in Gozo.”
