A badly decomposed body has been recovered from the sea in the locality of Qbajjar, on the outskirts of Marsalforn, Gozo on Sunday.

Police authorities said that they were called to the scene at around noon.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were called to the scene to retrieve the body.

Police advised that the body is that of a male.

Duty Magistrate Brigitte Sultana was notified and has appointed an inquiry.

A post mortem will be held to establish the identity of the man and cause of death.

Police investigations are ongoing.
