An educational programme for the elderly is to be set up at Il-Hagar Museum in Gozo

An agreement was signed between Active Ageing and Community Care and the Il-Hagar Museum, Victoria, through which an educational programme of the University of the Third Age (U3A) will be organised for the elderly.

the Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela presided over the signing of this agreement.

The Minister explained how the U3A offers no less than 50 courses a year for more than 700 members whose age varies from 60 to over 85.

He said that there are currently several centres around Malta and Gozo that are offering these courses.

He said that the educational programme at Il-Hagar is divided into various subjects. Among the subjects that will be discussed in more detail will be – the art; the island of Gozo and socio-economic development.

“Sessions like these continue to help many elderly people increase their knowledge as well as help them keep their minds active and be in touch in the community. This continues with the government’s vision of seeing our elderly at the heart of the communities,” concluded Minister Abela.
