3 million inbound tourists visited the Maltese Islands in 2023

A record 2,975,670, inbound tourists visited the Maltese Islands last year, an increase of 30.1% on 2022. While total nights spent surpassed 20.2 million nights, an increase of 21.9%, the National Statistics Office said today.
Total tourism expenditure for the period January-December 2023 was estimated at €2.7 billion, up by 32.7% on 2022, while expenditure per capita stood at €898, up from 880 in €2022.
Last December, there were an estimated 159,029, inbound tourists that visited the Maltese Islands.
The latest data from the National Statistics Office shows that this was an increase of 16.6% when compared to the corresponding month of 2022.
British, Italian and Polish residents made up 45.4% of total inbound tourists in December.
The NSO noted that total nights spent amounted to 1,062,882, and total expenditure almost reached €116.7 million.
The largest share of guest nights (84.8%) were as usual, spent in rented accommodation establishments.
