Over €550 has been raised by the Gozo Community Choir in aid of the Gozo College Sannat Primary School and Special Unit
The donations were made during two successful concerts by the choir in Munxar and Xewkija on the last two consecutive Sundays.
The now 30 strong choir, made up from both locals and international backgrounds sang a range of works from Mozart, Attwood, and Vaughn Williams, culminating in a rousing finale of Handel’s Hallelujah chorus.
The programme also included several pieces written by the Musical Director, Peter Thomas, reflecting life on the island and included his Munxar & Xewkija Toccatas, specially composed for the two villages.
The funds raised are being donated to Gozo College Sannat Primary School and Special Unit as part of their drive to improve performance facilities for all pupils. The choir said it is delighted to support the community in this way.
The new season for the choir in 2024 is aiming to cover Mamma Mia, Les Miserables, Lion King, We Will Rock You and The Greatest Showman, to name but a few.
The choir said it welcomes new members with no entry requirements (or audition or music reading ability) other than joining a fun group of like minded people that enjoy singing in the community, for the community.
The group meets on Tuesday evenings 6.30-8.30pm, usually in Munxar Parish Centre. However, while festa preparations are underway, starting next week, Tuesday, the May of 14th, they will be based in the Gharb village hall.
The choir is calling on others to join them. ”And look forward to meeting and making music and friendships together.” Further details from gozochoirsecretary@gmail.com.
