An agreement between the Ministry for Gozo, the Foundation for Educational Services, Agenzija Sapport and Voice for Inclusion Association Gozo, “will lead to a strengthening of the service in summer months for students with disabilities in Gozo,” the Government has said.
Details about the agreement were given during a visit to the Sannat Special Unit by Education Minister Clifton Grima, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, and Minister for Inclusion Julia Farrugia Portelli.
This Unit is part of the Gozo College, in which a Summer School service has been provided by the Foundation for Educational Services for the last few years.
Until now in Gozo two services were being offered at the same time for students with disabilities, a service from FES at the Sannat Unit and another service financed by the Ministry for Gozo and Agenzija Sapport, operated by Voice for Inclusion Gozo.
“Through this agreement these two services and resources will be combined into one service to give the best experience to the student. This service should also serve as a model of excellent collaboration between different government entities,” said Minister Clifton Grima.
He went on to say that the Sannat school is an example of what true inclusion in education means. This is done with dedication shown by the educators with students who have learning difficulties, so that they feel on the same level as other students.
Minister Camilleri stated that, “For the third consecutive year we are offering this service so that children with disabilities in Gozo continue to develop and have the chance to attend SkolaSajf like other children.”
Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli said that “ever person, whatever their age and whatever their ability, should be given every help to increase their opportunities.”
This year SkolaSajf will be given by the state’s primary schools and by 5 resource centres around Malta and Gozo between Monday and Friday.
The service runs from the 12th of July to the 11th of August and from the 21st of August to the 7th of September. SkolaSajf hours are between 8:30am and 1:30pm, an extended service for working parents will be provided in selected centres from 7:00am to 8:30am in the morning and 1.30pm and 5.30pm in the afternoon.
