World Blood Donor Day is being celebrated in Gozo next month with the National Blood Transfusion Service, which will be organising a Mass at Ta’ Pinu National Shrine.

The Mass is being held on Saturday, the 15th of June at 6.30pm, in honour of all Gozitan blood donors. Everyone is invited to attend, especially blood donors.

This year’s theme for World Blood Donor Day is – Share Life, Give Blood – underlining the role every single person can play by giving the valuable gift of blood.

World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is celebrated on the 14th of June serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. The global theme of World Blood Donor Day changes each year in recognition of the selfless individuals who donate their blood for people unknown to them.
