294 traffic accidents reported in Gozo during second quarter, up 23%There were 294 reported traffic accidents in Gozo during second quarter of this year, up by 55 or 23.0% on 2023, the National Statistics Office said. There were one fatality.

Of the 294 accidents, 255 were reported as non-injury road traffic accidents, up by 51 on 2023. There were 39 reported with injuries involved, up by 4 on last year.

Victoria recorded the highest number of accidents with 86, this was followed by Xewkija with 44, Ghajnsielem 31 and Nadur 25.

Also in Gozo – Ghasri, Kercem and San Lawrenz all registered less than five road traffic accidents.

On a national basis, during the first quarter there were three road traffic fatalities all involving males.

Road traffic accidents during the same period increased by 4.0% and casualties decreased by 7.9% when compared to the same period in 2023.

The NSO noted that between April and June, the highest number of road traffic accidents occurred on Tuesdays with 752 cases or 17.0% of the total.

Birkirkara registered the highest number of road traffic accidents at 294 cases.
