The Ministry for Social Policy today launched the 2010 edition of the Worker of the Year Award at a business breakfast held at a leading hotel in St Julian’s.
Nominations for the award can be made by individuals, workers and principals, constituted bodies, trade unions and voluntary bodies, including NGOs.
Speaking on her experience as the winner of the 2009 edition, Josephine Mifsud, Team Leader at the Psychiatric Clinic at the Qormi Health Centre, said, “This award was totally unexpected. I hope my dedication to the patients and clients who visit the health centre will act as an example to others, not just in my field, but in all those areas where the customer element is so important.”
Anthony Tabone, Chairman of the Selection Committee for the 2010 award, appointed by the Minister for Social Policy said that “the Worker of the Year Award is a celebration of the contribution of individual workers at their place of work. I urge you co-workers to look out for outstanding individuals who can act as role models and whose dedication and contribution can act as a beacon to all workers, not just to those in their line of work.” He also made a special appeal to employers to use this opportunity to give recognition to and to motivate their employees
Frans Borg, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Social Policy, in his concluding address said that “this is an award that is growing in stature from year to year. It is not only open to civil servants but to workers in all sectors of employment. The award is made strictly on merit and every effort is made for the Selection Board to be as broadly representative as possible.”
Nomination forms may be obtained from the Ministry for Social Policy during office hours (tel: 2590-3122 or 2590-3416), from the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations in Victoria, Gozo (tel: 2155-6823 or 2156-3553) or from local council offices. The form can also be downloaded from the Government portal www.msp.gov.mt.
