Qala Local Council has declared that it will “take all the necessary action to rid Hondoq Bay from slime which is emanating from the fish farms.”
The Council said in a statement that “slime has re-appeared after previous incidents this summer, coating the sandy beach, polluting the water and causing severe inconvenience to members of the public who cannot swim there.”
Comments on the Mayor’s social media page just 24-hours ago said that there was still reports of a strong smell in the area and another said that they had got “disgusting stuff” on their swimsuit after swimming there in the morning. Mayor Paul Buttigieg said he is monitoring the bay on a daily basis with updates put on his social media page
The Qala Local Council said that it is “determined to take action against the persons who have allowed this to happen and the authorities which have not imposed the necessary preventive and enforcement measures.”
“We have battled for so long for Hondoq to be enjoyed by the public and not become a yacht marina. We cannot allow it to become a stinking, polluted bay,” said a Council spokesperson.

How come Qala mayor together with councillors only complained about this slime. I heard that more places were affected around Malta and Gozo. Simple question. Why the mayors of these places affected did not complain ????? Why.
