On Monday morning, the 11th of November, a commemorative prayer service and wreath laying ceremony will take place to mark Remembrance Day – Jum it-Tifkira – in honour of the victims of the two world wars of the 20th century.

The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri will preside over the ceremony at Independence Square, Victoria

As the Citadel clock strikes the eleventh hour, a minute of silence will be held, followed by the Last Post and the Reveille.

The ceremony includes the laying of traditional red poppy wreaths at the foot of the monument to commemorate and honour Gozitan victims, the armed forces community, British and Commonwealth veterans, the allies who fought alongside the UK and the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two world wars and later conflicts.

The monument, known also as Christ the King Monument, is a 1949 work of Italian sculptor Carlo Pisi and was unveiled by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on 7th May 1954.

The commemorative ceremony gets underway at 10.30am, guests are requested to be seated by 10.15am.
