Elisa Cordina has just published her debut poetry collection called – A Galaxy of Thoughts. Literary critics and researchers assert that poetry “can tell us about the world we live in through words we can’t forget” (Boyd, 1973, p. 4). This is the aim behind Elisa’s debut poetry collection.
The public are invited to a book signing event with Elisa this coming Saturday in Victoria, Gozo.
Today’s hectic world has seen a sharp decline in reading for pleasure (Rosoff, 2022). Elisa said that “in light of this, the poems that make up A Galaxy of Thoughts are short yet profound. Today’s impatient readers can pick up this book for only five minutes a day and still have the chance of being touched: of being told about the world through words that hopefully stay with them and accompany them in their day-to-day lives.”
Complemented by illustrations, to appeal to different types of readers and to bring out certain themes more potently, Elisa said that “the poems transport individuals to a metaphorical galaxy, where they encounter people just like them.”
The thought behind it is that “they are consequently alleviated from the weight of their thoughts, just like the poet was when penning them.”
Elisa added that “this is as every one of us is at times faced with the concepts and questions presented in the poems, and this is what unites us as human beings.”
She explained that “among the powerful themes this collection explores are those of injustice, the environment, love and lost love, success, growth, and art. Often inspired by news that shocks the nation, like rape and femicide and building collapses, or otherwise by psychological or philosophical curiosities, like depression and family dynamics, these poems have the potential of understanding, influencing, inspiring, and changing.”
Elisa Cordina will be at Bargate Bookshop in Victoria, Gozo, on Saturday, the 16th of November between 10am and midday, so don’t miss out on the opportunity of purchasing a signed copy.
