Over 260 clerical workers within Local and Regional Councils in Malta and Gozo will be benefiting from “improved employment conditions” through a new collective agreement that was agreed between the Association for Local Councils and the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) signed today, the government said.
It added that the agreement, which was reached with the participation of the Local Government Division and the Industrial Relations Unit, “improves the conditions of employment, the financial package of employees and provides opportunities for further training and career progression.”
The agreement, in addition to recognising the important role of clerical workers in providing a service to residents in all localities of Malta and Gozo, also offers career opportunities for those wishing to work in the field of Local Government.
Local Government Minister Owen Bonnici congratulated the parties for the agreement reached and explained that in addition to the increases in workers’ wages, among others, through this agreement workers will be entitled to ten days of cultural leave per year, when they are selected to represent Malta in cultural activities both in our country and abroad.
In addition, employees who will represent Malta in sporting activities will be granted special leave according to the schemes issued by SportMalta.
New workers will benefit from an indefinite contract from the outset, a better deputising allowance, and an improvement in the performance bonus rate.
