There are currently a total of seventeen companies operating from both the Gozo Innovation Hub and the Xewkija Hofra Complex, said Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri.

The Minister was replying to a Parliamentary Question tabled by Opposition Spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg, on how many private companies there are in the hub to date.

Schembri added that “a process is currently underway to allow more companies to operate from both complexes and thus reach the maximum number of private companies that can operate.”

No details were provided as to what the “process” is.

The Gozo Innovation Hub was inaugurated in November 2019. The project was carried out with an investment of €9 million from Malta Industrial Parks and co-financed through European Funds for Regional Development to “house high-end, smart businesses working on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, blockchain and the internet of things.”

Just over a year later, in December 2020, the Nationalist Party accused the Prime Minister of turning the hub into into a “Labour club by holding his meeting there for a Labour political activity.” Adding that the hub still “remained empty of businesses.”
