Gozitan Joe Bajada, Secretary-General of the Malta Cycling Federation, has been re-elected for a third consecutive four year term as UCI Voting Delegate with 37 votes.

His appointment was confirmed during last week’s 37th Elective UEC Congress 2025 of the European Union of Cycling at Bratislava, Slovakia.

Over the next four years, Bajada will form part of 15 delegates who will have the right to vote on behalf of the 52 European affiliated countries, during the Annual General Congresses of the International Cycling Federation. With these 15 European delegates, another 30 delegates from the other four confederations, which are ACC (Asia), COPACI (Pan America), CAC (Africa), and the OCC (Oceania) will join them.

In this year’s election, 29 delegates were nominated from different Federations and Associations within the UEC, where 15 were elected as Voting Delegates and another 8 as substitute Delegates. Due to the UEC statute, the first four women and men were elected and Joe Bajada was one of them.

In this Congress of The Union Europeenne de Cyclisme Congress, with the participation of official delegates from 49 of the 51 member federations, confirmed by acclamation the Italian Enrico Della Casa as President for the four-year period 2025-2029. Confirmed also Alasdair MacLennan (Great Britain) as the UEC General Secretary.

Expressing his pleasure with this result, Joe Bajada thanked all those 37 European countries that have once again shown full confidence in him with their vote so that now together with the other 14 delegates they will represent them during the next UCI Congress, scheduled for the 25th of September 2025 during the UCI Road World Championships in Kigali (Rwanda).

Joe Bajada said, “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who supported my candidacy with their votes and to the Malta Cycling Federation for its continuous efforts to promote and develop cycling in Malta and beyond. Thanks to my colleagues John Zammit and Daniel Borg Olivier for your support and trust.”

He added that, “my personal satisfaction is my re-election, which is a testimony to the confidence delegates have shown again in me. Thanks to all National Federations for supporting me again for the position. Honestly it is an immense honour for me. This marks a significant step and I will be looking more forward to further challenges and work for the good of our sport.”

Bajada dedicated his achievement to his family for the continuous support they always give him.

At the end of his comments on this prestigious result, Joe Bajada said that this is personal satisfaction and success for the Malta Cycling Federation, Malta and Gozo.
