Gozitan Corsairs – The Islanders with a Thirst for Adventure – is the title of a public talk taking place this coming Saturday at Il-Hagar Museum and in collaboration with the Gozo University Group (GUG)
The talk, which will be delivered by Liam Gauci, is part of Gozo University Group’s Gozo Week events.
Swashbuckling, rum-guzzling, profit-making gentlemen corsairs are brought to life. This talk will shed light on some of the Gozitan corsairs who prowled the Mediterranean Sea in the 18th century, often overlooked in favour of their Maltese counterparts. These folk helped shape the island we know today.
The museum said that the talk leans heavily on Gauci’s latest work, Morte o Fortuna, copies of which will be available for sale on the day.
Liam Gauci is a maritime historian who served as Curator of the Malta Maritime Museum for 17 years. This year, he published his second monograph, Morte o Fortuna: Corsairs at Malta 1747-1798.
Gauci is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta and now a senior manager at Heritage Malta, in charge of asset development.
The talk is this Saturday, the 5th of April, starting at 11am. Il-Hagar Museum is located in St George’s Square, Victoria.
As always, admission to the museum is free, but seat reservations are recommended by sending an email to events@heartofgozo.org.mt
