Winner of the Ggantija Heritage Park Design ContestHeritage Malta have announced the winner of the Design Contest for ‘Enhancing the visitor experience in the Ggantija Heritage Park World Heritage Site’, which was launched on the 19th October 2009. The winner was selected from amongst 12 submissions which included two foreign contestants, as well as another two entries involving a joint venture between Maltese and foreign consultants.

The winner of the Design Contest for ‘Enhancing the visitor experience in the Ggantija Heritage Park World Heritage Site’ is Perit Robert Sant. The Jury also identified a further two proposals worthy of an honourable mention: Prof Alex Torpiano (TBA Periti) Perit Martin Xuereb (Martin Xuereb & Associates and Politecnica Soc. Coop. – Firenze)

This Design Contest forms part of the €9.2 million Archaeological Heritage Conservation Project, 85% of which is co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and includes works on three sites, namely the Tarxien Temples, the Ggantija Heritage Park in Xaghra, Gozo and the St. Paul’s Catacombs in Rabat, Malta.

Heritage Malta thanked all contestants for submitting an entry for the Design Contest and expressed its appreciation to the hard work and effort that went into the preparation of each scheme. The Jury was impressed by the architectural quality of the proposals and the sensitivity shown by the contestants towards this unique site.

An exhibition of the Design Contest Entries will be held at the Ministry for Gozo St Francis Square, Victoria. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Hon Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo on Wednesday 23rd December and will remain open until the 12th January 2010.

It will also be held at Heritage Malta’s Head Office, Merchant’s Street, Valletta between the 18th January 2010 and 21st February 2010.
