An agreement has been signed between the Arts Council Malta and the Regional Councils that will lead to a national-scale initiative to document the diverse heritage of Malta and Gozo, in its various forms, so that it can continue to be preserved.

This agreement, announced on Friday by the Government, covers the Regional Councils of the Port, East, Gozo, North, South, and West. In each region there will be dedicated coordination teams that will oversee the implementation of the project.

Minister for National Heritage and Arts Owen Bonnici, said that, “this initiative will allow for effective documentation of our country’s cultural assets. It will also lead to Regional and Local Councils contributing to the Cultural Inventory of Malta and thus continue to preserve our country’s cultural heritage.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli welcomed this agreement which will lead to deeper artistic and cultural preservation and innovation among localities.

“Through this initiative we can ensure that our culture remains alive for future generations,” the Parliamentary Secretary said.

Arts Council Malta Chief Operating Officer – Funding and Strategy Mary Ann Cauchi said, “this initiative is a significant step forward in recognising the role of local communities in shaping Malta’s cultural landscape. By working together with these parties we can ensure that cultural heritage remains accessible and continues to evolve. Through this agreement, we will not only be preserving culture but also fostering innovation and participation at a regional level.”
