The Gozo Business Chamber has welcomed the announcement of a new ferry service to be introduced between Sliema, Saint Paul’s Bay and Gozo.

The Chamber said that such an added service following the introduction of the fast ferry service in the past years, and which has proved both successful, and a much-needed service for the island, highlights the fact that “enhanced accessibility is key to ensure that islands such as Gozo continue to thrive.”

The GBC noted that, together with other important steps such as the proposed airlink, and related development, “it highlights the fact that when Gozo is given its due importance it can become a key contributor on a national level.”

The introduction of further maritime services shows the “untapped potential” that exists on further routes that can be exploited, said the Chamber. “This includes also dedicated routes, services and incentives for commercial vehicles.”

The Gozo Business Chamber concluded by saying that it also believes that this step should fall “within a much wider strategic vision that incorporates the current infrastructure and management of the port facilities in both Mgarr and Cirkewwa.”
