Still I Create – an event celebrating creativity and resilience has been announced, which will be held on Friday, the 25th of July at the Marsalforn Waterfront, Gozo-
During the same event, the book ‘Il-Passjoni tad-Dipressio,’ a collection of poems written by George Portelli and illustrated by Emma Agius, will also be launched.
Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri together with President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca announced the event, saying that this artistic and social event aims to celebrate the creative spirit, particularly in times of personal challenge.
During the evening, poems will be presented and there will be various artistic interventions that show how creativity can serve as a tool for healing, communication and unity between humans.
It was explained that the book that will be launched reflects deeply on the experience of those living with the condition of depression, and manages to combine words and images to shed light on a reality that is often ignored and stigmatised.
Minister Clint Camilleri reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue working to remove the taboo that still exists on mental health and praised initiatives such as this one that strengthen social awareness on this subject.
He stated, “as a Government, we must continue to deliver a clear message that help exists, and no one should suffer alone. We already did this when we opened Dar il-Kantuniera. Initiatives such as this event ‘Still I Create’ and the book ‘Il-Passjoni tad-Dipressio’ have a double value, not only artistic, but also human because they show how creativity can be a means of healing, solidarity and hope.”
Malta Trust Foundation President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca praised this initiative and said, “the launch of this book is a celebration of the courage, creativity, and resilience of young people who have experienced mental health challenges and have chosen to share their journey through poetry and art. Initiatives such as these help to break the stigma attached to mental health, and show that every person can achieve their aspirations.”
She added that, “the Malta Trust Foundation is proud to be collaborating with the Ministry for Gozo and Planning on several important initiatives, including those on mental health from a social perspective, which place dignity, empathy, and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.”
The Gozo Minister concluded by congratulating George Portelli and Emma Agius for this courageous artistic and social contribution that leaves an impact, while inviting everyone to join in this event that combines creativity and support for each other.
