Nature Trust volunteers on duty in Gozo at Ramla l-Hamra called called Nature Trust – Fee Malta coordinators to let them know a turtle had emerged just in front of the nests area. It turned out to be Johanna about to lay her third nest of the season .

Johanna laid her first nest at Ramla on the 18th of June and her second on the 29th of June

NTM coordinators, together with officials from ERA – Environment & Resources Authority, went on site immediately.

After the turtle explored the area, she found a spot she liked, and started her nesting process. After the nesting process was ready and when the turtle was making her way back to the sea, she was checked to see if she was microchipped, and surprise surprise, it was turtle Johanna again, said NTM.

This is Johanna’s 3rd nest, and the 5th nest overall in Malta and Gozo, now starts its incubation period, monitored closely by NTM coordinators and volunteers.

The coordinators expressed their thanks to the volunteers on duty who kept a keen eye out, and to ERA for their swift collaboration.
