Data released by the National Statistics Office today shows that during the second quarter of this year, a total of 11,462 trips were carried out between Malta and Gozo, carrying a total of 1,927.590 passengers.

During the same period sea the total number of trips, vehicles and passengers increased by 2.8, 3.9 and 7.7%, when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2024, the NSO said.

The NSO noted that June was the busiest month recording a total of 3,964 trips or 34.1% of total trips for the quarter.

A total of 1,591,820 passengers travelled between Mgarr and Cirkewwa during the second quarter, this was an increase of 3.5% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024.

The highest number of passengers was recorded in April – 549,469 or 34.5% of the total for the quarter. When compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the number of vehicles increased by 3.9%, totalling 548,423.

There were 8,925 trips in the second quarter, a decrease of 0.4% over the same period in 2024. June registered the highest number of trips – 3,017 or 33.8% of total trips for the quarter.

During January-June, passenger traffic originating from Mgarr terminal was busiest on Saturdays and Sundays, vehicle traffic was busiest on Sundays and Mondays.

The NSO said that from the Cirkewwa terminal, passenger and vehicle traffic was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays.

During the second quarter of 2025, a total of 2,717 trips were carried out between Mgarr and Valletta carrying a total of 335,770 passengers. When compared to same quarter in 2024, the number of trips increased by 15.3% and the number passengers increased by 32.7%, the NSO said.

It noted that May registered the highest number of trips – 865 or 35.5% of total trips for the quarter and the highest number of passengers – 117,819 or 35.1% for the quarter.
