The Gozo Youth Wind Band, within the Gozo Youth Wind Band & Orchestra, is currently in the final stages of preparations to present yet again its annual concert, the Don Bosco Grand Concert, titled ‘The Magnificent Seven.’

After successfully taking part in ‘Christmas with the Musicals’ last December, it is now time to present its new repertoire for the 2010 events. As in previous years, the Gozo Youth Wind Band strives to introduce new arrangements in the local musical scene while making sure that the evening is varied and appealing to the general public, young and old. Titles such as: Ben Hur, La Gazza Ladra, The Magnificent Seven, Adventures for Band and Theme from The Schindler’s List will form part of the concert programme, the latter featuring soloist Stephanie Pavia (member of the Youth Orchestra section) on the violin. The concert will also include by general request Henry Wood’s – Fantasia on British Sea Songs and comes to an end with the Don Bosco Hymn.

As in the case of The Youth Orchestra, The Gozo Youth Wind Band consists mainly of 50 Gozitan Youths who after having pursued their musical studies both in Gozo and Malta on an individual basis, meet regularly in group to prepare an exciting and varied repertoire to be performed later on in concerts throughout the year. In fact this is the 7th year since the inception of these two ensembles, namely, The Gozo Youth Orchestra and the Gozo Youth Wind Band. It is worth mentioning that the Gozo Youth Orchestra will be presenting for the 3rd year running- Opera vs Pop Under the Stars, on Monday, the 2nd of August, 2010, at the Gozo Ministry’s Courtyard, Victoria. Reservations are now being accepted.

The Magnificent Seven will be held on Sunday, the 31st of January, 2010. at 7.30 pm, at the Oratory Don Bosco Theatre, Victoria.
