During 2024, the electricity supplied amounted to 3,106.1 GWh, an increase of 6.5% when compared to the previous year, the National Statistics Office said.

The electricity supply in Malta last year comprised of net generation from power plants (58.1%), supply from net imports (31.1%) and renewable sources (10.8%).

The figures from the NSO today revealed that the gross production consisting of the electricity supplied from power plants and from renewables amounted to 2,185.9 GWh, a decrease of 6.8% when compared to 2023.

The NSO also noted that a total of 970.4 GWh were imported through the interconnector, registering an increase of 49.7% when compared to the previous year.

The months of July and September featured the highest electricity demand, registering 593 MW and 592 MW respectively during 2024.

The annual average demand was that of 478 MW, an increase of 1.8% when compared to 2023.

GHG emissions from fuel combustion in power plant sources decreased by 7.8% over the situation in 2023.
