Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that next year, the authorities will launch new regulations open for public consultation to continue to improve the quality of the service offered to the elderly

The PM, accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, made the announcment during a visit to the elderly in a private residential home, which he said is “one of many that the Government purchases beds to accommodate the elderly.”

The Prime Minister noted the important services offered to the elderly by workers and professionals and stressed that the Government is committed to ensuring that every elderly person living in a residential home, whether public or private, is given the best possible level of care.

He explained that this is why next year the authorities will launch new regulatory standards for public consultation. Dr Abela said that the aim of these regulations is to continue to strengthen the quality of the service offered to our elderly.

Abela noted that for the coming year, the vote allocated in the Budget approved last Tuesday by Parliament includes €83 million investment for residential care in private homes.

He said that this investment “reflects the importance that the Government gives to collaboration with private operators to offer high-quality, sustainable services that meet national care standards. This investment is in addition to public-private partnerships with residential care operators.”
