Boxing Day is synonymous with the national L-istrina marathon to raise funds for The Malta Community Chest Fund so that it can continue helping all those in need.
This year, unlike previous years, the celebration of L-istrina in Gozo will be held at the entrance to Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem, this traditional activity is also being held in aid of the work of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
The President will visit the Nativity Village in Gozo today, at around 3.30pm, to receive donations from Gozitan individuals and companies.
“This is a special chance for all Gozitans to show their support, give their contribution in person, and meet the President. Let’s come together as one island, one heart,” the organisers said.
L-istrina will be opened at noon at the Kirkop Sports Complex by President Myriam Spiteri Debono, accompanied by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Opposition Leader Alex Borg and Archbishop Monsignor Charles J. Scicluna.
L-istrina will be broadcast until midnight on all major stations, and throughout the day there will be entertainment from band players from different musical organisations brought together by the National Band Clubs Association, as well as activities led by television personalities, and interviews with people who have needed the help of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
Donation lines are open, and one can offer €25 by calling 51802012, €50 on 51902030 or via SMS for a donation of €11.65 on 50619201. Other donations, of any amount, can be sent directly via the BOVMobile or MyAPS apps, on 79359565.
