The Sannat Local Council will present the passion drama Waslet is-Siegha (The Hour Has Come) on Saturday, 21st March at 7.00 pm in Triq Gruwa, Sannat.

The Council said that the drama will be staged on the outskirts of the village, along one of the back roads leading towards Xewkija, and this outdoor location offers a striking natural backdrop whose distinctive features lend themselves seamlessly to the unfolding scenes of the narration.

Written in Maltese and artistically directed by Mr Sunny Scicluna, the production traces the final hours of Christ before His crucifixion and death on the cross.

Bringing together a dedicated cast of over 40 actors and stage extras, most of whom hail from the village of Sannat, the drama will be staged on the eve of the Fifth Sunday of Lent.

Speaking about this year’s production, the Mayor, Mr Philip Vella, stated that the yearly passion drama organised by the Local Council, has become a hallmark event for the village in the weeks leading up to Holy Week. Each year, the Council selects a different thematic focus.

He recalled last year’s daytime production, which centred on the character of Judas Iscariot. He also thanked the Ministry for Gozo and Planning for once again supporting the local council’s events.

This year’s drama will take place in the evening, when shadows will envelop the surroundings, adding to the intensity and atmosphere of the scenes. Through powerful interpretation and evocative staging, Waslet is-Siegha seeks to lead audiences into deeper reflection as the liturgical season approaches its most solemn and profound days.

The event is free, and those attending are reminded that seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
