Dr Raymond C. Xerri, of Qala is the first Gozitan on the national executive of the Malta Bands Association, known as Ghaqda Kazini tal-Banda, since its establishment in 1947. It represents 97% of all bands in Malta and Gozo.
Dr Xerri was unanimously acclaimed by the well-attended recent Annual General Meeting held at the Association’s Headquarters in Hamrun.
Besides taking up the task of Assistant PRO, he represents all eleven Gozitan Bands on the Executive and was given the task to initiate international contacts.
Dr Xerri is presently the President of the Ghaqda Muzikali Ite ad Joseph – Qala, President of the Gozo Branch of the Friends of Australia Association, Chairman of the Gozo and Gozitans Series, and Deputy Mayor of Qala. He is a diplomat by profession, a well-known author, writer and international lecturer. The committee of the Ghaqda Muzikali Ite ad Joseph – Qala said that they augur Dr Xerri in his new post.
So what he got into this association…. it’s not like he has discovered another planet! There were several Gozitans who have done brilliant things and don’t get mentioned!
So what you are saying Mr Mejlak, that we should not be publishing this item because more deserving cases have not been publicised?
Surely a better way would be for you to submit full details of those who have not received recognition so that we can publish their achievements, which we would of course be happy to do.
