On Saturday, the 27th of March, the Victory Philharmonic Society of Xaghra, together with the L’Isle Adam Philarmonic Society of Rabat, Malta, present a Concert of Sacred Music related to Holy Week festivities. This concert is going to take place at the Collegiate Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady, Xaghra and begins at 7.30pm. Two important anniversaries are going to be commemorated:
(a) the 75th anniversary since the Victory Band of Xaghra participated for the first time in the annual Good Friday procession which emerges from the Xaghra parish church and
(b) the 125th anniversary of the L’Isle Adam Band’s foundation in 1885.
During this concert, the cantata It-Triq tas-Salib will be performed. This cantata has lyrics by Fr. Marcello Ghirlando and Fr. Raymond Camilleri and musical composition by Mro. Joseph Galea LCM who will be directing the two bands during this event. This melodious cantata contains meditations on the fourteen stations of the Way to the Cross (Via Crucis) which is greatly meditation during the Lent and Holy Week season.
The concert will feature a number of soloists together with the Nativitas choir of the Victory society under the direction of Silvana Agius and Assistant Director Ivan Attard. This musical programme will going to be under the patronage of Hon. Dr. Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary, in the presence of other dignitaries.
A repetition of this concert is going to be held on Sunday 28th March, Palm Sunday, at 7.00pm in the Parish Church of Saint Joseph, Rabat Malta.
On the occasion of Holy Week festivities, the Victory Philharmonic Society and the Nativitas Choir have issued a CD of funerary band marches named ‘HEKELDEMA’ (a Field of Blood). This CD is issued to commemorate the significant anniversary of the Victory Band in the participation during the Good Friday procession in Xaghra.
