GO Malta has announced that it is investing further in its core tv infrastructure in view of the added requirements resulting from the transmission of the English Premier League and Italian Serie A as from the next football season, which kicks off in Summer. GO has won the exclusivity to air matches from these two leagues as from the 2010/ 11 football season onwards. This investment will allow GO to broadcast simultaneously six live events, including also the football matches from the English and Italian leagues.

The upgrade works will take place in GO’s tv operations facilities at the Maghtab headend, and will include a new playout system which will mean that the company can receive and record up to 10 simultaneous live feeds, while being able to transmit to the customers’ homes six of the 10 live feeds. As a result, all GO sports customers can rest assured that they will not miss a minute of action from the English Premier League and Italian Serie A.

Moreover, GO is upgrading also its playout operations centre at the Maghtab headend in order to ensure that the company’s tv team will be able to monitor and direct all transmissions effectively and to the customers’ satisfaction. In addition, an audio studio is being set up within the tv operations centre to cater for live commentary during football matches and other sports events.

Kelvin Camenzuli, GO’s Senior Manager Video & Network Operations Centres, said, “Over the past years we have invested considerably in upgrading both the core tv operations as well as the transmission facilities, with the result that GO provides almost 100% DTTV coverage all over the Maltese islands.”

“With the added requirements resulting from the transmission of the English and Italian football matches, GO has decided to upgrade further its state-of-the-art operations centre to cater for the concurrent sporting events that would take place. Hence, GO sports customers in Malta and Gozo will have the peace of mind that the best live action will always be available live on its six GO sports channels,” Mr Camenzuli said.

Meanwhile, GO would like to state that all its customers can watch the vast majority of FIFA World Cup matches which will be held between 11 June and 11 July in South Africa. All GO customers can watch this fantastic event for free via the free-to-air transmissions provided by TVM and other international channels.
