The Chamber of Advocates has advised that it has issued a Directive for next Monday, the 22nd of June, to all Advocates practising in Courts, ”to abstain from providing legal services before the Courts.”

The Chamber said that this action is being ordered following the judicial protest filed on the 15th of June, regarding the ”surveillance, monitoring, interception and recordings of privileged conversations between an advocate and a client at the Corradino Correctional Facility, facts which seriously undermine the fundamental right of professional privilege between advocate and client.”

The Chamber stated that on Monday, ”all members of the Bar shall strictly comply with the following orders:

• No Court Attendance: You shall not attend or participate in any hearing, hearing, or case scheduled before any Court, Tribunal, or Board in Malta or Gozo.

• No Filing of Documents: You shall refrain from filing any application, document, note, or other writing that is not urgent in the Registry of the Court.

• Notice to Clients: You shall contact your clients immediately to inform them that their hearings falling on Monday 22nd June 2026 will not be assisted by a lawyer due to this mandatory directive.
