Gozitan activist Luke Said, has said that during last weekend’s Nadur village feast, many residents asked him about the current state of Ta’ Kenuna Tower after he had raised concerns in January over the lack of restoration works.

In a statement, Luke Said remarked that ”following an early visit to the site this morning, it is evident that no works have commenced.”

He warned that ”the tower now shows signs of further structural deterioration, with the existing cracks having widened along the fissure directly beneath it. The fissure has completely destroyed the tower’s pedestal and appears to be splitting the structure into two, increasing concerns about its long-term stability.”Said noted that to date, the only action taken has been the publication of a Ministry tender in August for a warranted structural engineer to assess consolidation measures for heritage structures across Gozo. ”Beyond a planning application dating back to 1996, no works appear to be planned on this site for this century.”

Luke Said concluded by saying that he is sharing the photographs ”in the interest of public safety and the preservation of this important heritage landmark. I trust this matter will receive the urgent attention it deserves.”
